An enjoyable time at Pubic Service S.C. celebrations

SPORTS: The Public Service Sports Club celebrated the 65th anniversary last week-end under the patronage of the Governor of Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.

An enjoyable time was had by all.

There were six-a-side cricket, girls cricket with 10 overs per side softball cricket and walking races for various age groups Deshapriya’s team beat Welegedara’s team in the softball six-a-side final.

Welegedara’s team:33 for 2wkts in 5 overs (Dr. C. Leelasena 20; T. Welegedara 2 for 10).

Deshapriya’s team: 34 for no wkt in 5 overs (D.B. Ekanayake 18 not out, S. Deshapriya 10 not out)

There were five teams that participated – Kulatunga’s team Ranasinghe’s team and Dharmaratne’s team are three of the other teams).

[Mahamaya wins]

Mahamaya College won the girls 10 overs per side triangular cricket tournament.

Mahamaya ‘B’ beat Kandy Cricket Academy girls by 10 runs.

Mahamaya ‘B’: 50 for 5 wkts in 10 overs.

Kandy Cricket Academy: 40 all out in 9.5 overs.

Then Mahamaya ‘A’ beat Mahamaya ‘B’ in the final by 25 runs.

Mahamaya ‘A’: 80 for 3 in 10 overs (Samadi Ratnayake 50 not out, Nepali Jayasinghe 11 not out, Tilini Senaratne 10, Chamodi Pathirana 2 for 30).

Mahamaya ‘B’: 55 all out in 5.4 overs (S. Chamodi 20, D. Muhandiram 5 for 25).

Awards: Six-a-side Cricket:

Best Batsman: Dr. C. Leelasena, Best Bowler: T. Welagedara.
Best Fielder: D.P. Ekanayake.

Girls cricket: Best Batsman: Samadi Ratnayake, Best Bowler: Danushika Muhandiram, Best Fielder: Tilini Senaratne, Best-All rounder: Chamodi Pathirana.

Walking Race:Under 55-winner: Lalith Kulatunge. Under 65 winner: U. Jayasundera, Under-70 winner- D.B. Ekanayake.
