CILT President to visit Sri Lanka

The International President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Prof Alan Waller will be in Sri Lanka from October 27-30. This is the first visit made by an International President since 2002 when Sri Lanka hosted the International Convention.

Prof Waller’s visit is at the invitation of Chairman of CILT Sri Lanka Prof. Amal Kumarage, and members of the Council. He will deliver the keynote address titled “Professionalism in Supply Chain’ at the International Conference to be held on October 28 at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.


 


Maalu Maalu in Top 100 Hotels List

The Sunday Times UK has named Maalu Maalu Resorts & Spas, – Passekudah one of the “100 Best Hotels in The World” in its October 2011 edition of The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

Kantar acquires 100% of LMRB

Kantar recorded 100 percent acquisition of Lanka Market Research Bureau (Private) Limited (LMRB), Sri Lanka’s pioneering market research agency.

Kantar is one of the world’s largest insight, information and consultancy groups. By uniting the diverse talents of its 13 specialist companies, the group aims at becoming the pre-eminent provider of compelling and inspirational insights for the global business community.

Chief Executive, LMRB Himalee Madurasinghe said “We are confident that this acquisition will help us to strengthen our capabilities and offerings. We are in the process of launching a range of new services including the Target Group Index (TGI – a single source marketing and media survey) and setting up specialisd units for Social Research and Shopper Research. LMRB has been pioneers with its offerings in the Sri Lankan Market with custom research and syndicated products such as the National Media Survey, Radio Audience Panel, and TV People meter measurement.


KPMG MESA partners’ conference in Colombo this year

KPMG’s Middle East & South Asia (MESA) Regional Office said that its 10th Middle East and South Asia Partners’ Conference will be held in Colombo, in November this year. Hossam Amin Fahmy, Chief Operating Officer of KPMG’s MESA Regional Office said that the Partners’ Conference is a key event in the firm’s calendar. He said that the event is expected to bring together over one hundred partners from KPMG offices in 15 countries representing over 5,000 professionals and associates working in KPMG member firms across the region. Several members of KPMG’s Global Leadership team will also attend the Conference to discuss regional strategy, industry developments and the future direction of the member firms in the region.


Three wheelers donated


Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the handing over ceremony of 250 three-wheelers as a self-employment measure under the Divi Neguma program. The handing over ceremony was held at Hyde Park Corner, Colombo on October 18. This program was implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Finance, David Peiris (Pvt) Limited, Bank of Ceylon and the Self-Employers Association of Sri Lanka.

Munchee wins NCE awards

At the NCE Awards 2011 Munchee secured two gold awards for 'best export industry' and 'best exporter in confectionery and bakery category'.
