The variety of media in which he worked is oil and acrylic in projecting his vision using various techniques and styles. Aruna has not acquired any special academic training in the field of arts but he is a self-made artist. His natural gift for artistry through sheer perseverance had turned him to be a master of the brush. He has proved his mastery and ability to arouse the enthusiasm of the public exhibiting his work in prestigious tourist hotels in Sri Lanka.

His outstanding asset as an painter is his dedication to his work. He has been successful in painting the various aspects of life of the ordinary man, and cleverly captured the mood of men and women in the particular situations he has selected.

As years advanced he created beauty on canvas while his art kept on rising to created heights. The most unique feature as a young artist is the speed in which he executes his excellent creations. The golden sandy beaches, the ancient cities, cascading waterfalls, birds at Kumana sanctuary, elephants at Pinnawala, wildlife in Yala, women tea pluckers cloud in dark grey or brown blankets hanging from their heads to their bare knees, beautiful village bellies with half tucked clothes draped around their cure figures bathing in the river are some of his themes for painting.

Aruna has been exhibiting both at home and abroad since 2001, and a permanent collection of his work is found in Colombo Art Gallaries.

He has utilised his talents to feature unique concepts some of which are appreciated by the local business community and others in foreign countries such as Austria, France and India.

Aruna has extended his artistic concept in landscaping and his practical skills are numerous.
