Malaysian ladies won the International Ladies Team Championship at
the 124th Sri Lanka Amateur Ladies Open Golf Championship organised by
the Sri Lanka Golf Union and supported by Victoria Golf and Country
Resort and worked off at the beautiful Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella,
off Kandy.
The two Ladies from Malaysia Haza Fariza Ismail and Loy Hee Ying put
up a splendid performance to aggregate 302 gross which was two shots
ahead of the runner up Indian Ladies team who totalled 304. But way
behind in the third place was Sri Lankan Ladies team who totalled 339
points - 37 points behind the champions which is a very wide gap
considering the level of play.
It was an exhilarating display by the 14-year-old Malaysian girl Loy
Hee Ying who is in Malaysia's Super Junior Squad. She made two top
scores of 73 and 72 to total 145. She earlier this year won the
Singapore Junior Open Championship and also the Malaysian Junior Open
Championship. She was partnered by 17-year-old Hasa Farisa Ismail who
made 77 and 79 to total 156. Farisa Ismail is one of the finest up and
coming golfers in Malaysia with a World Ranking and is a member of the
Malaysian National Golf Elite Squad. She won the Malaysian Closed
Championship this year.
India who finished runner-up was propped up Gurubani Singh who made
74 and 75 to total 149 and her partner Gauri Monga made 80 and 75 to
total 155.
Sri Lankan Ladies finished second runner with Niloo Jayatillake
making 88 in the first round but improved on it in the second round by
making 77 to total 165.
Her partner Rasika Ekanayake failed to deliver by making 87 each in
the two round to total 174. |
