Navy's SA Beach Games medallists felicitated

Congratulations from Navy Commander... The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy congratulated all the sportsmen and sportswomen who won medals at the South Asian Beach Games at the Naval Headquarters. The Navy Commander while congratulating all the medallists also presented them with cash awards - Rs. 25,000 for Gold, Rs. 20,000 for Silver and Rs. 15,000 for Bronze. All Navy personnel who represented them at the Games were members of National teams in their respective games.

The first ever South Asian Beach Games were held from October 8 to 14 in Hambantota with 359 sportsmen and sportswoman from eight South Asian countries.

There were 12 sports events - Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Football, Handball, Swimming, Marathon, Sail Boating, Kabbadi, Life-Saving and Horse Racing. Navy's success came in Kabbadi, Volleyball, Netball and Basketball.The following Navy players secured medals:

KABBADI: W.A.D.D. Dilhara, K.V. Premawathi, W.C.P. Perera, W.M.D.S.P. Rathnayake, E.N.K. Edirisinghe (all Silver Medals), R. Saheevan, K. Sinotharan (Bronze Medals).

NETBALL: A.M.A.S. Bandara (Gold Medal)

VOLLEYBALL: B.D.W. Rathnapala, M.J.M. Perera (both Gold Medals), P.G.S. Gunasinghe (Silver Medal).

HANDBALL: S.P.P.G. Wimalasekara and W.A.P. De Silva (both Bronze Medals).

BASKETBALL: B.P.M. Fernando, P.I.S. Sandamali and S.K. Gunavijaya (all Bronze Medals).
