Suwen Selvaratnam wins two trophies

Suwen Selvaratnam sparkled for Sri Lanka by winning two trophies both
in the Seniors segment at the 124th Sri Lanka Amateur Open Championship
2011 organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and sponsored by Audi and
E-Win and with the support of Victoria Golf and Country Resort and
worked during the week at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off
Kandy. The course was in excellent conditions with the greens looking
immaculate thanks to the efforts of Victoria's Australian born General
Manager Errol Johnston and his support staff who did a wonderful job.
Up and coming golfer Shyanika Fernando of Royal Colombo golf Club put
up a sterling performance by winning the Pin Fernando Trophy for the
Best Nett Aggregate over the two rounds. She got 70 in the first round
followed up with 71 in the second to total 141 Nett playing to a
handicap of six.
Versatile golfer Suwen Selvaratnam put up a fine display by first
winning Seniors Trophy for the Best Gross Aggregate by getting 82 and 84
to total 166. She followed by winning the trophy for the Best Nett
Aggregate and playing to a handicap of 8 she got 74 Nett and 76 Nett
Aggregate.
A. Sandhya of Victoria Golf and Country Resort won the F De Mel Cup
by defeating her club and favourite Rasika Ekanayake 3 - 2 in the
finals.
The Leonard Peiris Cup for the fist round Best Gross was won by Loy
Hee Ying of Malaysia with 73 gross while her team mate Tham Soot Yuet
won the Firestone/Japan Cup for the Best first round Nett score by
making 68. |
