Unparliamentary behaviour to be kept under check

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa has appointed a seven-member committee to make recommendations to improve discipline and ensure security within the Parliamentary Chamber in the wake of unruly scenes that broke out when President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the Budget on November 21.

The Committee, headed by Senior Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera, will consist of both Government and Opposition members, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody told Parliament yesterday. The other members of the committee are Ministers P. Dayaratne, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Rauff Hakeem and Parliamentarians Karu Jayasuriya, Wijedasa Rajapakshe and R. Sampanthan.
