Namal Rajapaksa takes oaths

Namal Rajapaksa being congratulated by his father President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, an attorney himself, after the former was
sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law following his father's footsteps.

Parliamentarian and sportsman Lakshman Namal Rajapaksa who took oaths
as an Attorney-at-Law before a Three-Judge Supreme Court bench
comprising Chief Justice Dr. Shirani A. Bandaranayake, Justice Nimal
Gamini Amaratunga and Justice Suresh Chandra, on Friday appeared in his
first case, in a land matter, before the Supreme Court Two Judge Bench
comprising Justice Suresh Chandra and Priyasad Dep PC.
Attorney Namal Rajapaksa appeared as the junior counsel for
President's Counsel D S Wijesinghe.
Namal's parents President Mahinda Rajapaksa, First Lady Shiranthi
Rajapaksa, his two brothers Yoshitha and Rohitha, Speaker Chamal
Rajapaksa, Cabinet Ministers, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and
well-wishers were present at the ceremonial sitting of the Supreme
Court.
After conclusion of the oaths ceremony Namal went upto his parents
and paid obeisance and received their blessings.
Namal who had his higher education in the United Kingdom in
International Law, is the founder President of the Tharunyata Hetak, a
movement for youth which introduced innovative concepts to meet the
demands of youth in Sri Lanka. The movement has made a significant
contribution to meet the aspirations of the rural youth.
A brilliant product of S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia Namal
Rajapaksa represented his school in rugby. He was a versatile rugby
player for S. Thomas' and captained the school team in his final year.
Namal holds an outstanding record as a schoolboy ruggerite which
earned him a place in the Sri Lanka Under-19 side and went on to captain
the Sri Lanka Youth team. Namal continues to indulge in his pet sport
and represents the Navy team in the Premier League rugby. |
