Karu-a thorough gentleman

Q: You praised Karu Jayasuriya recently as a thorough gentleman and a respectable public servant. Are you supporting Karu Jayasuriya who is in the fray of the party leadership.

A: As an observer and a loyal UNPer I have identified the main characteristics of the UNP seniors. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Karu Jayasuriya are assets to our party and the country. Unity is one of the main principles of the UNP (United National Party). I earnestly wish to see the re-emergence of the United National Party as the foremost party in the country.

Fishermen do not get good price

Q: You raised your voice in Parliament for your voters and the fisherfolk.

A: Where can I talk about my people who risk their lives in the high seas except in Parliament? We have to take this situation seriously.

The poor fishermen are struggling to survive due to the rising costs of fuel and fishing gear.

In spite of all this they are unable to even sell fish at a reasonable price.

There should be a well planned system to purchase fish direct from fishermen. Else it is only the fish merchants who profit by it.

JVP rebels : a social need !

Q: The first rally of the JVP rebellion group was held at Hyde Park, Colombo last week. How do you assess their future?

A: The society and social needs gives birth to political parties.

The working class of our country and the suppressed people gave birth to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

It has a strong social base. Power-hungry, people such as Dharmasekera and Mahinda Wijesekera tried to destroy the unity of the party. We have seen their fate.
