Dr. Githanjana Mendis appointed advisor
The Cabinet has appointed Consultant Neurologist Dr. Githanjan Mendis
advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education.
Dr. Mendis is also the Chairman of the Open International University.
Rupavahini State Awards
The Rupavahini State Awards Festival 2010 will be held at 6.00 p.m.
on Friday at the 'Nelum Pokuna', Mahinda Rajapaksa Performing Arts
Centre, Colombo under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
Cultural Affairs Minister T.B. Ekanayake will also participate.
The event is organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Thirty two awards will be presented to artistes who have excelled in
their fields.
122nd birth anniversary of Dr. T.B. Jayah on Jan. 1
The 122nd birth anniversary of Al Haj Dr. T. B. Jayah, educationist,
statesman, diplomat and national hero, will be commemorated on Sunday,
January 1 at a public meeting to be held at the Ghafoor Hall of Zahira
College, Colombo 10 under the patronage of High Commissioner of
Malaysia, Azmi Zainuddin. Dr. T.B. Jayah Oration will be delivered by Al
Haj S.H.M. Jameel, former Secretary, Ministry of Muslim Religious and
Cultural Affairs.
The function organised by the Conference of Sri Lankan Malays [COSLAM]
is being held for the sixth consecutive year in conjunction with HARI
BAHASA MELAYU [Malay Language Day], a day dedicated to the preservation
and development of the Malay Language amongst Malays and other
interested persons in Sri Lanka.
In pursuance of this, COSLAM has conducted competitions in the Malay
Language, essay writing and oratory, where persons in the age groups of
Under 12, Under 17, Under 21 and Open categories have competed for
valuable prizes.
The prize-winners will be awarded their prizes on this day while the
winners of the Oratorical Competition will deliver their prize-winning
speeches.
