UTE-Sri Lanka Open Golf Jan. 2 to 6 at RCGC

The UTE-Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship 2012 organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and sponsored by United Tractor & Equipment and Caterpillar (UTE CAT) will be worked off at the golf course of Royal Colombo Golf Club from January 2 to January 6.

The defending champion of this championship is Anura Rohana who recently won the Bangalore Open Golf Championship. He will face stiff competition from Mithun Perera who won the Haryana Open Golf Championship in September 2011 and the Sri Lanka Open Amateur Golf Champion for 2011 N. Thangaraja.

The Secretary of the Sri Lanka Golf Union Ana Punchihewa said that a new feature in this year's Open Championship is that a UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy will be on offer for handicappers below 14 and another trophy for handicappers between 15 and 28 to make the championship more competitive and it will attract golfers with higher handicaps and to reward their efforts. This year will also see the inaugural championship for lady handicappers 36 and below for the Pam Fernando Challenge Trophy named after one of the greatest lady golfers produced by Sri Lanka.
