‘Technical error, now rectified’
Commenting on the controversial GCE A/L results Emeritus Professor J.
Jinadasa said that this year there were no errors except for a simple
error in the district ranking. There should not be a big fuss over this
issue.
We should make it clear to the students that no injustice would be
done to them and the making of answer scripts was perfect. The district
and Island rankings will be re-examined soon and as such, students need
not panic.
The Professor said that our examination system is hundred percent
tool-proof and its credibility is recognised the world over.
H.I. Gamage a retired teacher in Hambantota said that his son is
satisfied with his results.
Retired Director Lionel Wickramaratna of Kegalle said that
anti-government elements are on the prowl to make the GCE Advance Level
results a public issue to disrupt the government’s progressive march.
They want to create unrest among the students and parents.
Any student not satisfied with his results, is free to apply for
re-evaluation before January 9 as in previous years, Commissioner
General of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe said.
He said that 79,000 and 75,000 applications for re-evaluation had
been received in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
He said that re-evaluation process will commence after January 9.
Applications for re-correction of answer scripts are accepted by the
Examinations Department till January 9.
The error in the 2011 results was only on district ranking as there
was a mixup, in the rankings of Matara and Colombo districts. It was
purely a technical error on computers. This has since been rectified,
the Examinations Commissioner General said.
