‘Don’t politicise GCE AL mishap’

The outgoing Exams Chief Anura Edirisinghe spoke to the Sunday Observer to explain the reasons for the GCE Advanced Level district rank mishap and why students should not panic over the issue. He voiced concern over the attempts by different quarters with vested interests to blow the issue out of proportion and discredit hard earned reputation of the Sri Lanka’s Examinations Department.

‘Technical error, now rectified’

Commenting on the controversial GCE A/L results Emeritus Professor J. Jinadasa said that this year there were no errors except for a simple error in the district ranking. There should not be a big fuss over this issue. We should make it clear to the students that no injustice would be done to them and the making of answer scripts was perfect. The district and Island rankings will be re-examined soon and as such, students need not panic.

Vehicle Monitoring System for first time

The fisheries Industry will enjoy the benefits of modern technical know-how. The Fisheries Ministry plans to introduce for the first time a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) by the end of this year, Ministry sources said. With the introduction of the VMS, loss of life and property will be minimised. Messages can be passed onto fishermen via satellite. Sudden changes in weather conditions can be easily monitored and can be given to fishermen who are at deep sea.
