Commemorating departed teachers

A programme by Janakaraliya to commemorate theatre personalities Gamini Haththothuwegama, Dhamma Jagoda and H.A Perera will be held on January 4 at 6.30p.m. at the Lionel Wendt theatre. The programme includes a lecture by Ariyawansha Ranaweera and the staging of dramas Porisadaya and Payanihal. Payanihal is the Tamil translation of Kora Saha Andaya by Dr. Dharmasena Pathiraja and was produced by Dhamma jagoda.


Thewatha - Manoranga Pelahara Drama Festival

The Thewatha - Manoranga Pelahara Drama Festival - a collection of three plays starring Jayalath Manoratne - will be staged from January 5 - 7 at Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo 7.

The festival open on January 5 with Booruwa Mahattaya - the newest play directed by Manoratne. January 6 will see Suddek Oba Amathai, a critically-acclaimed drama which has introduced a revolutionary new format to Sinhala drama. Andarela one of the best dramas to have been staged here in recent years with over 1,000 performances will go on stage on January 7.

The shows will commence at 7 p.m. on each day. The event is organised by the Sadjana Sahurda Sansadaya.
