Palmyrah Research Centre re-erection under way

The re-erection of the Kaithady Palmyrah Research Centre, which was destroyed during the conflict, has now commenced.

Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda who inspected the re-erection work of the Centre, instructed Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board Pasupathy Seevaratnam and its General Manager to complete work as early as possible, and expressed his satisfaction over the work in progress.The Minister, having inspected the State land opposite the Research Centre, instructed officials to allot it to the National Craft Council for the setting up of a showroom and a production unit.

They were also instructed to erect a parapet wall round the allotted premises to prevent water from the lagoon seeping into the land, during rains.

The Minister also instructed the Chavakachcheri Divisional Secretary to take steps with regard to the allotment of the block of land to the National Craft Council.
