Indian assistance for housing project in East

Four thousand houses will be constructed in the Eastern Province with
financial assistance from the Indian Government, Eastern Province Chief
Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan said.
He said this follows a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner in
Sri Lanka.The funds to construct 3,000 of these houses will be allocated
to the beneficiaries directly. The construction of the remaining 1,000
units will be carried out by the Indian Government, according to the
Chief Minister. He said the estimated cost of each housing unit is Rs.
550,000.A committee, led by Chief Minister Chandrakanthan, has been
appointed to look into the implementation of the housing project,
Eastern Provincial Council sources said. Chandrakanthan said the
preliminary work on this project is over now and the construction work
will commence shortly.
Forty nine thousand housing units will be constructed in Sri Lanka
with the financial assistance of the Indian Government. The East ern and
Central Provinces will receive 4,000 housing units each. The remaining
units will be constructed in Jaffna, he said.
