Mahela confident of performing well

It was a happy and contended Mahela Jayawardene who spoke to me after the fantastic victory by 8 wickets over Australia in the rain reduced game at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday night.

Mahela Jayawardene

We went in with a game plan and it worked. All my team mates did what was expected of them. They are rallying round giving me all the support and that has made by job that much more easy, said Jayawardene.

The cricketers flew into Brisbane exuding confidence and are determined to keep the winning form going when they play India on Tuesday at the Gabba.

'We are hard at practice, working out and talking as to how we should go in each game. It is the hard work that is paying dividends. There will be no letting up and hopefully we should be in the best of three finals, said Jayawardene, whose leadership is being admired, appreciated and praised by everyone here.

In fact after the three games, it was the consensus that he is far ahead of Indias Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Australias Michael Clarke as captain.

Jayawardene has said that he will do the job of captaincy until the end of the year, give it a thought and hand it over to a new captain.

But Sri Lanka is due to tour Australia for a Test series at the end of this year and when asked whether he would like to continue leading, he sported that winning smile and in his unassuming manner said: lets wait and see. Jayawardene should continue for the good of the game.
