TT: Junior National Champion Ruvini Kannangara, national player
Erandi Warusawitharne and Umaya Tharaki (girls) and Udaya Ranasinghe
(boys) go out favourites to win the all-island Junior ranking Table
Tennis Championship organised by the Western Province Table Tennis
Association in collaboration with the Table Tennis Association of Sri
Lanka which will be worked off at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium,
Mount Lavinia today (Sunday 19th February) from 8.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
A total of 433 entries have been received by the organisers and
around 85 had been rejected due to submitting them late and in some
wrong dates of birth had been stated possibly due to oversight. There
was a particular case that a player born in the year 2012 has entered to
participate in the under-18 championship.
This championship will also see all the top junior paddlers in the
country participating, and the cynosure of eyes will be on those who did
well at the junior national championship held at Peradeniya last month.
Ruvini Kannangara of Dharmasoka College won the Junior National
Championship last month while another schoolgirl from Dharmasoka College
Erandi Warusawitharne was distinctly unlucky to finish runner up both in
the junior National and Senior National Championship held at Peradeniya
recently. Umaya Tharaki also from the school finished under-15 champion.
Udaya Ranasinghe playing in the boys segment won the under-15
championship.
In the under-18 championship for boys the top seed is Udaya
Ranasinghe of Vidyartha College with Imantha Udayanga as bottom Seed. In
the under-18 championship for girls the top seed is Erandi
Warusawitharne and the bottom seed Ruvini Kannangara of Museaus College. |
