Lanka - Palestine bonds strengthened

Namal Rajapaksa, M.P. visited Palestine from 18-21 February 2012 as
the Special Envoy of President Mahinda Rajapaksa accompanied by Deputy
Minister of Technology and Research, Faizer Mustafa, MP Rohana Pushpa
Kumara and K. Amunugama, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs.
On February 19, the Sri Lankan delegation called on the President of
Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas at his office in Ramallah and presented a
special message from President Rajapaksa to him. While extending a warm
welcome to MP Rajapaksa, President Abbas conveyed his gratitude to
President Rajapaksa for his long standing commitment and continued
support to the Palestinian cause. President Abbas also noted with
appreciation Sri Lanka's support to Palestine at UN and UNESCO last
year.
Namal Rajapaksa while thanking President Abbas for the warm welcome
and hospitality extended to his delegation stated that Sri Lanka would
stand by the people of Palestine as in the past and assured that he will
take a personal interest in enhancing the solidarity with Palestine
people.
Later, the delegation was hosted to a lunch by President Abbas.
The delegation invited the business community of Palestine to visit
Sri Lanka in March and take part in the Expo-Lanka 2012.Sri Lanka's
Representative in Palestine Dr. T. Jayasinghe accompanied the Sri Lanka
delegation during the visit.
