President to attend NAM Summit and UN Assembly

President Maithripala Sirisena will visit Venezuela ahead of his trip to New York to take part in the 71st United Nations (UN) General Assembly. President will be taking part in the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Caracas, Venezuela which will be held on Sept.17 and 18, 2016.


SLFP marks 65 anniversary today

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), one of the major political parties in Sri Lanka will celebrate its 65th Anniversary in Kurunegala today. The Late Prime Minister, S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, formed the SLFP on the September 2, 1951 at a meeting held at the Colombo Town Hall.

931 ex-LTTE cadres to be reunited soon

The rehabilitation authorities hope to implement a comprehensive post monitoring system to help former ex-LTTE cadres who were reintegrated into the mainstream society, newly appointed Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brig. Dharshana Hettiarachchi said. He told the Sunday Observer that there were only 931 ex-LTTE cadres still undergoing rehabilitation and they would be reunited with their families before the end of this year.
