School for the Deaf anniversary

The 28th anniversary celebrations of the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf - Moratuwa will be held under the patronage of Ambassador for the Netherlands in Sri Lanka Louis W.M. Piet and Governor Western Province Al-Haj Alavi Mowlana as the chief guest and guest of honour on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the school premises Rawatawatte, Moratuwa.

A cultural variety entertainment show by the children of the school will be a part of the event.

Sixty fifth anniversary of Royal's 1947 Group

The Batch of Old Boys of Royal College who entered Royal in 1947 at Form 1, which at that time consisted of three parallel classes, will celebrate their 65th anniversary on March 9.

This is indeed a land mark in the history of 'batch get-together', in that they have been meeting regularly and kept a close-knit contact as the Group of '47 over a period of 35 years.

The Group convenor consisting of Nihal Jayatunge in Sri Lanka, Tissa Atapattu in USA and Canada, Dr. Mahanama Warnakulasuriya in the UK and Ranjith Jayawardene in Australia and New Zeland have formed a network of communciations to keep this batch together, as they are spread out over six coutnries, with an original head count of 100 in the Group, identified by names, that were recaleld from memory, as no official records were avaialble. Forty of the batch have sadly 'passed away'.

Sahabandu, Dr. F.C.M. Schokman, Dr. Gamini Seneviratne, Major General Dr. C. Thurairaja, C. Vivekanandan, Dr. Mahanama Warnakulasuriya, Homananda Weerasooriya, Clarence Welikala, T. Wijeratnam (Thomas Wickham), Palitha Wijesekera, Jus. A.S. Wijetunge and L.A.T. Williams.

The venue of the get-together will be at 'Akasa Kade', the Roof Top Restaurant of Ceylinco House, Fort.Nihal and Manel Jayatunge, Major General Dr. C. and Loret Thurairaja, Dr. Daya and Nalini Rodrigo, Nalin and Ajitha Goonawardena, Clarence and Noreen Welikala, Dr. Dayan Kirthisinghe and Dr. Raghavan Kulanayagam will co-ordinate the event.
