Music Ablaze 2012:

Memorable night for budding choristers

The Lawrentian choir put the stage on fumes as they unravelled their musical talents at the BMICH on February 17. The three choirs Primary, Junior and the Senior Choir were unique in their performance and undoubtedly each of these choirs created an indelible impression deep in every person's mind.

The chief guest for this evening was the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo Rt. Rev. Dr. Maxwell Granville Silva, the Guests of honour was Archdiocesan Director of Education and General Manager of Catholic Schools Rev. Fr. Ranjith Madurawela and Brigadier J.P Ampe Mohotti Director of Ranaviru Sevena.

The choir's first appearance was 'La Musique Pastorale' in 2007 and their second performance was 'Voice Cantabile' in 2009. Since then the choir of St. Lawrence's Convent has reached great heights and Music Ablaze is another off-shoot of it.

Discipline is not inborn but it is instilled. Every member of the choir from the youngest in grade one to the advanced level student exhibited a high level of self-discipline.

The music was soothing to the ear. The untiring efforts of the choirs and their trainers stood out.

The young Lawretians of grade 1 and 2 took their places on stage without any hesitation and soothed the hearts of the listeners.

The Junior and Senior Choirs made music come alive. It was an event to bring forth the musical talents and the skills of our children.

Language of music knows no barriers. Music unites and brings people together.

These young choristers at their rendezvous with music sang religious songs in Sinhala, English and in foreign languages, along with other songs.

The clarity of the singers and their harmonising was beautifully synchronised. The musical fiesta of choral singing actually lifted the spirits of the listeners to a truly relaxing and tranquil stature.

It was a night of thunder and a night filled with music. It was indeed a memorable night for the budding little choristers.

It is truly remarkable that St. Lawrences always gives the strength to the talented youngsters to bring out their talents and sharpen and shapen them before they step into the larger society laying the foundation stone to build their lives as these youngsters excel in their career one day.

The Choir Directors Francis d' Almeida and Suleetha Nanayakkara along with the teacher in charge of the choir Christa Perera trained and guided the choir for this fabulous evening of music and pleasure.

As guest artistes the Josephian Choir and Jacqueline Hettiarachchi a past pupil performed to make this musical evening more colourful.

The students should be grateful to Principal Rev. Sr. Chandrika Perera for her unstinted support she always extended to this venture.
