CRICKET: A sixty-ball centry by skipper Shehan Wijetunga propelled
St. Thomas' College, Matale to their seventh outright win for the season
when they beat Kegalu Vidyalaya by eight wickets in their inter-school
cricket match concluded at Matale on Friday.
Skipper Shehan Wijetunga was in a punishing mood in scoring 109 off
68 balls which had 8 sixes and 9 fours which meant that he had scored 84
of these runs with hits to the ropes or over it. He was associated in a
third-wicket stand of 162 with Junior National Cricketer Lahiru
Madushanka who playing the junior role, made 46 with 6 fours and 2
sixes.
Shan Chathuranga of Kegalu Vidyalaya who made 17 and 14 in the match,
reached 900 runs for the season. He could have reached 1,000 runs had
been more cautious especially in the second innings when he tried to
force the pace and scored 2 sixes in his 14 runs when the approach
should have been to build up an innnings and save the match.
Another batsman to excel for the Thomians was vice Captain Amuditha
Wijewansa who scored 71 with 9 fours and 2 sixes made off 57 balls who
has scored 750 runs for the season.
