Salgado's century the highlight on second day

Isipathana’s Harith Wanigarachchi who captured four wickets for 84 in action yesterday.


 

The 49th 'Big Match' between Isipathana and Thurstan was buried in a heap of runs when it ended in a drab draw at the SSC grounds yesterday.The only significant aspect in the two day contest was two contrasting centuries by Heshan Jayakumar (126) and Thurstan skipper Sanjeev Salgado (114) lighting up an otherwise dull proceedings.

While Jayakumar's innings was a steady one which had 18 fours compiled off 123 deliveries Salgado's Innings of 114 was more enterprising with sweetly timed drives.

Isipathana who batted first and were 256 for 6 overnight continued batting in the morning before the declaration came after about forty minutes batting in the morning. They finally closed their innings at 307 for after facing 108.5 overs.Thurstan in their first innings showed positive signs when their openers Minhaj Jaleel and Saman Hevavitharana gave a brisk start. Thurstan skipper Sajeeve Salgado struck a fine 114 and added 138 runs for the fourth wicket Ramindu Kumarasinghe.

Thurstan finally took a first innings lead scoring 331 runs. The match was called off due to bad light around 6.00 pm.
