Compensation for traders

Moves are in place to grant compensation to traders of the Mannar fair who were affected due to a recent fire.

This follows a meeting held at the Mannar District Secretariat, chaired by Vanni District Parliamentarian Hussain Farook.

Several decisions were taken at the meeting such as granting the affected Rs. 25,000 to set up temporary huts and Rs. 200,000 loan assistance to develop their businesses.

The Mannar District Secretary has appointed a committee, comprising experts from various sectors to conduct a thorough study into the incident. The stalls at the Mannar fair, run by the Urban Council, had been destroyed by a fire.

Following this incident, nearly 350 traders at the fair were affected and the loss from the fire was estimated to be Rs. 300,000.

Mannar Assistant Government Agent, Divisional Secretary, Commissioner of Local Government, Police and Army officers were present at the special meeting.
