Several political and social leaders voiced anger over attempts by the US and some Western countries at the UNHRC Geneva Sessions to meddle in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka under cover of human rights.

Sri Lankans should unite to defeat UN manoeuvres

Senior Minister and LSSP leader- Prof. Tissa Vitharana

Q: What will you propose to defeat the US conspiracy against Sri Lanka.

A: To begin with all Sri Lankans should unite to defeat these manoeuvres.

Our country which has won the war against terrorism and separatism is in danger of plunging back into another crisis.

The conspiracy to effect a regime change has both international and national dimensions. Otherwise there is no reason for the UN human rights council to entertain resolutions such as the one sponsored by the US to condemn Sri Lanka for alleged human rights violations during the closing stages of the humanitarian operation. The case for such a move has been devised in collaboration with the Pro-LTTE diaspora and several organisations.

Pro-Western traitors out to create havoc

Veteran lawyer -S.L. Gunasekera

Q: How does the proposed US resolution affect Sri Lanka's sovereignty

A: This was not a UNP or UPFA problem - but a common issue facing the entire country. If the US-led Western efforts succeed in adopting any action program it would be the people of this country who would suffer. Pro-Western traitors are out to create chaos throughout as they did in Libya. The resolution will lay the ground for it.

We are against international intervention

UNP Spokesman, MP Gayantha Karunatilleke

Q: What is your stand on US resolution against Sri Lanka at UNHRC Sessions in Geneva.

A: We oppose external intervention in Sri Lankan affairs or any strictures that the UNHRC might pass against Sri Lanka in the backdrop of US resolution.

The UNP was against any form of international intervention in Sri Lanka since it was the UNP which won independence for the country in 1948.
