Julien (match bag of 10 for 91)sends Joes crashing to defeat:

Peterites retain Fr. Le Goc Trophy with superb win

St. Peter's College retained the Rev. Fr. M.J. Le Goc Memorial Trophy for another year when they beat their traditional rivals St. Joseph's College by 6 wickets in the 78th 'Battle of the Saints' concluded at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Left-arm leg spinner Julien de Zilva fashioned the Peterite win with a fine spell of bowling with a match bag of (10 for 91) as the Joes were dismissed below the 200 run mark twice to finally set the Peterites an easy victory target of 115 with ample time with 50 overs at their disposal. The writing was on the wall for the Joes at the end of day one when they managed to score only 141 and the Peterites ended their first innings at 192 with a useful 51 run lead.

The Josephians' going in for the second time once again faltered against the spin of Julien de Zilva who struck twice early to send back Dylan Fernandopulle and Pathum Madusanka. But Yashan Samarsinghe (26) and Sadeera Samarawickrema (66) tried to steady the Innings. Julien de Zilva was well supported by medium pacer Ranitha Liyanarachchi (3 for 43) as the Joes were dismissed for 165.

The Peterites last savoured victory two years ago under Chathura Peiris while the Joes last won in 2008 under Ruwantha Fernandopulle.

St. Joseph's - 1st innings: 141 (Sadeera Samarawickrema 33, Julien de Zilva 5 for 42).

St. Peter's - 1st innings: 192 (Jason Buultjens 48, Priyamal Perera 4 for 81, Yashan Samarasinghe 4 for 37).
