Lahiru (96) rescues Nalanda

Lahiru Jayakody struck a well compiled 96 off 158 deliveries with eight fours and three sixes as Nalanda reached a first innings score of 252 on the first day of their 83rd Battle of The Maroons at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Nalanda batting first lost early wickets when Sisuru Samarasinghe and Venuka Ashan struck twice to send Nalanda sliding towards 86 for 4.

With Koshan Danushka (31) and Lahiru Jayakody (96) steadied the Nalanda ship.

Jayakody was also engaged in a 98 run stand for the seventh wicket with Pramud Hettiawatte.Ananda in reply were 72 for 2 in 21 overs when bad light intervened.
