Sanka Ramesh excels in drawn Big Match

The 60th Big Match between Moratu Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala College, Panadura ended in a tame draw at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, De Soysa Park at Moratuwa. The match was called off due to bad weather at 4.45 p.m. on day-two.

Resuming at 82 for 5 Vidyalians were skittled out for a paltry 116 runs and the overnight batsman Thilan Kanishka was out for 61 runs and Suresh Champaka added ten runs. Lahiru Vimukthi and Anju Tharaka were the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 45 and 3 for 33 respectively.

Following on Vidyalians started disastrously losing their opener Samindu Maduranga when the score was at 18 and Ishan Peiris joined Kavishka and brought the score to 47. Kavishka who was shaping well unfortunately was run out for 34.

Then Zaffran Preena joined Peiris and brought the score to 99 and Peiris was cleaned bowled by Yeshan de Silva for a well compiled 40 runs.

At this stage Vidyalian skipper Sanka Ramesh joined Preena and put on a valuable fourth wicket partnerships of 80 runs.

After the exit of Preena Vice Captain Janitha Samarajeeva joined his captain and battled till the close. Sanka Ramesh who created a record of his school with two successive hundred wickets on day one went onto score a captains knock of unbeaten 74 runs. When the stumps were drawn Vidyalians were 203 for 4.
