Exciting finishes expected at Speed Championship in Motor Racing on May 27

MOTOR RACING: Exciting motor racing is in store for the motor racing fans when the second round of the Speed Championship organised jointly by the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC), Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) and the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) gets under way at the Pannala Race Circuit, Pannala next Sunday (May 27th) commencing at 9 a.m. The official practices for grid positions will be held on Saturday May 26th.

The President of the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club and motor racing driver Hafiz Cader said that this is the second of the championship and the first one organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club was held in February and the third one will be organised by the Asian Motor Racing Club before the speed champion is decided.

Hafiz Cader also said that the competitors will be timed on Saturday and it will be known who has timed the fastest for this round.

He also said that all top racing drivers had entered the Super Cars event upto 3500cc. This is known as the SLGT event or Grand Touring cars event. Some of the top drivers in fray will be Dinesh Deheragoda, Arvinda Premadasa, Nigel Perera, Nalaka Dias, Ashane Silva, Pasindu Peiris, Janaka Dias, just to name some of them. A few more are expected during the next few days.

He said around 22 events for motor cycles and motor cars including Formula Cars will be worked. Apart from the event for the SLGT cars, the other event which should provide the thrills for the motor racing fans is the Formula event, three of which will be worked off. They are Formula McLarens 1300 cc, Formula Ford 1600 cc and Formula Ford 1600 cc (Pre 1985). Some of the top formula exponents like Rohan de Silva, Saffraz Nawaz, Rizvie Farouk, Dilan Senaviratne, Dinesh Deheragoda and many others are expected to compete.

The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club with a history of over 60 years successfully conducted the Nuwara Eliya Road Races at the height of the April Festivities season in Nuwara Eliya this year.
