Launches 1986-2010 history book:
Royal College fetes eminent past products
Royal College felicitated four of its old boys who are currently
serving as Chief Editors of Sri Lanka’s four Sunday English newspapers,
when it launched the second volume of its history book. The event was
held under the patronage of Secretary to the President Lalith
Weeratunga, another distinguished product of Royal, at Nawarangahala
last week.
Principal of Royal College, Upali Gunasekera said he is honoured to
have a distinguished Old Royalist – the chief guest who has reached the
pinnacle of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service and the four Editors
who have reached the zenith of their careers in journalism.
Chief Editor of Sunday Island and former Editor-in-Chief of the Daily
News, Manik de Silva, the most senior of the four spoke on behalf the
Editors and thanked his alma mater for organising the event.
Editor-in-Chief of The Nation , Malinda Seneviratne and
Editor-in-Chief of the Sunday Observer Dinesh Weerawansa were also
felicitated for their contributions as media personalities. The fourth
in the list as guests of honour, Chief Editor of the Sunday Times Sinha
Ratnatunga was unable to attend the function.
The first copy of the History of Royal College 1986-2010 was
presented to the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga by the
Principal of Royal College, Upali Gunasekera. The chief guest Weeratunga
made an interesting speech which was appreciated by all.
