Twenty eight new meet records set up

Twenty eight new meet records were established on the first and second days of the 39th Sri Lanka Schools Age Group Aquatic Sports Championships 2012 conducted at the Ananda College swimming pool yesterday.

Sunethra Wijeratne of Mahamaya, Kandy created two new marks in the under-19, 800 metres freestyle clocking 11.6.26 sec. and also won the girls under-19, 200m back stroke with a new record timing of 2.49.06.

Devindya Jayawardene also from Mahamaya, Kandy accounted for two meet records winning the under-11 50m breast stroke clocking 37.38 seconds and also winning the 50 metre butterfly stroke with a timing of 35.20 sec.

Over 1,710 girls and 4,693 boys from 135 schools are taking part in the meet.

Today is, the final day of the meet and Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardene will be the chief guest.
