Kandy Playgrounds Department very active with sports activities

PLAYGROUNDS DEPARTMENT: The Playgrounds Department of the Kandy
Municipal Council is very active with their sports activities. Outdoor
games such as Cricket, Rugby Football, Football are very popular, while
indoor sports like Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Carrom, Draughts are
equally popular with the young boys and girls at the Playgrounds and
Community Centres.
On the instructions of the Mayor of Kandy Mahen Ratwatte, Municipal
Commissioner Chandana Tennekoon and the Chief Sports Officer Kelum
Shanthsiri are keen to popularise soccer.
Soccer officials headed by R.G. Wijewardene with the assistance of
W.A. Priyantha have organised coaching camps during the weekends at
Aruppola and Getambe Playgrounds for boys under 13.
Boys from Mawilmada, Watapuluwa, Katugastota, Yatiwawala,
Nawayalatenna, Aruppola and Buwalikada are eagerly participating at
Aruppola Grounds.
The Getambe Playgrounds is also a hive of Activity with boys from
Dangolla, Dodanwela, Rosawatte, Mulgampola, Getambe, Katukele and
Deiyannewela very actively participating in the coaching programme.
