Shilpa sets up a new record

Thirteen-year-old Shilpa Fernando of Lyceum International School, Wattala, won two gold medals at the Sir John Tarbat Junior Championship held at Mahaweli Grounds in Embilipitiya.

In the girls shot putt under 15 event she broke the previous record of 8.97 m by throwing 9.56 metres. She also won the gold medal in the discus throw event. In this event she threw 27.70 metres.

Shilpa Fernando, is the daughter of Nixon Fernando, former national record holder in the shot putt event.
