Abans unveils Orion Compas Range

Abans unveiled the Orion Compas Range, from Titan, "This unique timepiece not only shows you the right time but also shows the right direction essential for Muslims who have to face the Ka'aba in Mecca when performing their prayers five times a day," a spokesman for Abans said.

"Ramadan is a time of introspection, faith, abstinence, perseverance and unity - in prayer and love, experienced through the month-long fast and time spent in devotion, the launch of Titan Orion Compas is timely ," he said.

 

 

 


BA resumes flights

British Airways will resume flights to Sri Lanka in March 2013 after a fifteen-year absence, a press release stated.

British Airways will fly passengers from Gatwick airport to the Bandaranaike International Airport via Male in the Maldives. The carrier will operate a Boeing 777, a long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner with three cabins on a thrice-a-week flight schedule to Colombo, a spokesman for the Airline said.


Sri Lanka's own satellite by 2015

Sri Lanka will have its own communication satellite by 2015. SupemeSat would own and operate it from their space centre in Kandy. The foundation stone for this was laid last week."This would be South Asia 's most modern and largest communication satellite and the first to be owned by the private sector in the region", a spokesman for the Corporation said.

Deputy Managing Director, China Great Wall Industry Corporation, China,Wang Zhongmin said that the Agreement to build the satellite would be signed in October in China.

 


Papyrus opens new outlet

Papyrus Papers (Pvt) Ltd. opened a larger, better-equipped Papyrus Print Point outlet in Colombo, expanding itsa operations in high-end digital printing.

This follows the creation of a new company, Papyrus Print (Pvt) Ltd, as a specialist in on-demand digital printing focussed on the 'quick print' customer segment.

The 3,000 square-foot Papyrus Print Point at Bambalapitiya houses a HP Indigo Digital Press recently imported by the company for the new location.


CCC concerned over SEC chairman's statements

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce(CCC) in a communique notes with concern the statements by Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Tilak Karunaratne to the media on his impending resignation.

"The resignation of two SEC Chairpersons within a period of less than one year will be viewed with concern by investors, corporates and other stakeholders. An effective and stable regulatory framework is critical to ensure a robust and sustainable capital market, which delivers long-term value to all stakeholders", he said.


Home Lands super draw

'Home Lands Super Draw' launched by Home Lands Holdings (Pvt) Ltd in December last year concluded in June this year.

The draw to select the winner was held on July 31 at the Sovereign Corporate Hotel, Rajagiriya. Former Chairman Hatton National Bank Rienzie Wijetilleke was the chief guest.

The lucky winner of the Super Draw was P. Gunawathie who purchased lot No. 26 from Eco Estate, Millaniya.

New NSB chief

Sunil S. Sirisena was appointed Chairman of the National Savings Bank on August 13.A senior officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, he had earlier served as the Secretary to the Ministries of Education, Co-operatives and Internal Trade and Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare. Sirisena obtained his Degree in Economics (Special) with Honours from the University of Peradeniya and the Post Graduate Diploma in Statistics from the University of Colombo. He holds a Diploma in Management for Professionals obtained from the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA). He has more than 36 years experience in management.





 


Quantum launches NordicTrack

Quantum has been in the market for more than a decade with its fitness related equipment. Having begun in 1998 as ‘Quantum Tele-Shopping’ running half-hour television infomercials on fitness equipment, Quantum has since introduced a range of equipment and a series of modern treadmills.

Quantum has initiated its latest venture in signing up with ICON Health and Fitness, a giant name in the United States to introduce ‘NordicTrack’, to Sri Lanka.


H One awarded LAR status

Civimech awarded 'Daikin Million Dollar Gold Award'

Civimech (Private) Limited was awarded the 'Daikin Million Dollar Gold Award' by Daikin Industries, Japan for for achieving one million dollars in sales and installing Daikin brand airconditioning equipment in Sri Lanka during 2011-2012. This was the second time that Civimech has been honoured with this award by Daikin.

“Civimech, being a longstanding authorised dealer for Daikin brand air conditioners in Sri Lanka, has executed many large-scale central air conditioning, VRV AC projects and domestic airconditioning projects which include office complexes, factories, shopping complexes, apartments, educational institutes and hospitals,” a spokesman for the company said.


Orient Finance support services at new location

Orient Finance PLC moved its support services to Dr. N M Perera Mawatha, Colombo 8. “This move was initiated to create a more customer-oriented ambience at its head office best known to customers, which will remain to be the public interface of Orient Finance PLC,” a spokesman for the company said.

The new office complex was opened by the Chairman of Orient Finance Dr. Dayanath Jayasuriya and Deputy Chairman, Janashakthi Insurance, Chandra Schaffter.
