Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that only separatist Tamil politicians
demanded the withdrawal of military camps in the North and not the Tamil
community.
The setting up of military camps in the North has become an obstacle
to these politicians in misleading the Tamils in the North in their
separatist political agenda. Hence they exert pressure on the Government
through the US, UN and Muthuvel Karunanidhi to withdraw the Army camps
in the North, the Minister told the Sunday Observer.
This clearly shows that these politicians who act in keeping with
their separatist agenda again attempt to raise communal passions in the
North with the help of some foreign elements. They are unable to realise
their goal due to the Security Forces being in the North, he said.
Since the Government is not ready to withdraw the Security Forces
from the North, these elements may attempt at forming a Government which
would dance according to their whims and fancies. Hence these elements
try their best and exert pressure on the Government.
The pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora wants a puppet Defence Secretary who
would call them the “machang” as they did during the former UNP regime.
Therefore, we call upon the masses that despite challenges, they
should rally round the Government to defeat their sinister motives, the
Minister said. |
