A'L exam - no power cuts at night

The Ministry of Power and Energy yesterday assured that the on-going
power cuts will not be imposed during the night until August 30 in view
of the GCE Advanced Level Examination now on.
Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told the Sunday
Observer that the Ministry has directed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)
power distribution stations islandwide to refrain from imposing power
cuts at night until the Advanced Level examination concludes on August
30.
According to a spokesman for the CEB the current power cut will
affect 78 towns in the country from 8.00 am - 6.00 pm in three different
stages.
In addition, the power cut will not be imposed in any part of the
country today for the benefit of Muslims celebrating Ramazan.
The Minister said that the CEB had to impose the power cut due to the
sudden breakdown at the Lakvijeya power plant in Norochcholai and
assured that the power cut will be lifted within a few days after
repairs at the power station are completed.
