Sammanthurai paddy farmers’ problems solved

Several outstanding problems faced by farmers in Sammanthurai were solved due to the initiatives taken by ERRO (Eastern Rehabilitation and Relief Organisation) Lanka at a cost of Rs. 9.6 million set apart by the Government of Japan, thus paving the way for farmers to engage in better paddy cultivation.

The Government of Japan on initiative of the Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka Kunio Thakasaki totally has provided Rs. 27.2 million as a grant for three projects to improve livelihoods of communities in the Moneragala, Ampara and Matara districts under its Grant assistance for Grassroots Human Society.

The money set apart for Ampara district has been utilised in the Sammanthurai Divisional Secretariat Division to improve agricultural infrastructure of two drainage outlets in Pallaveli Kandam, improvements of two anicuts with additional openings at Nellikadu Kandam, construction of a small bridge over the irrigation channel and reconstruction of a bridge with four gates at Karangakandam.
