Western Province leads with 70 Golds

Western Province is in the lead with 70 gold medals, 44 silver and 41 bronze medals at the 38th National Sports Festival 2012 which is now in progress at several venues. Central Province with 31 gold, 35 silver and 30 bronze medals is placed second while Wayamba with 21 gold, 20 silver and 25 bronze medals has secured the third place.

Many new Sri Lanka records have been established at this year’s festival. In swimming in the women’s 50 metres back stroke a new record was established by Western Province’s N. Jayasekera who clocked 32.28 seconds. In weight lifting too, 24 new records were established and four of them being new Sri Lanka records.
