India-Lanka ferry to resume
The Indian federal shipping ministry has decided to resume the ferry
service between Tuticorin and Colombo, which was suspended in June last
year.
The service was started as per an agreement between India and Sri
Lanka on passenger transportation by sea signed on January 7 last year
to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed to operate passenger ferry services between
the ports of Tuticorin and Colombo and between Rameswaram in
Ramanathapuram district and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The ferry service
was discontinued less than six months late.
