Sri Lanka lose both matches on the first day of Borneo Sevens

The Sri Lanka Rugby Sevens team lost both matches on the first day of the Borneo Rugby Sevens played at Kota Kibulu, Malaysia yesterday.

The Lankans were beaten by the formidable Japan by 34 points (two goals, four tries) to 7 (one goal) in their first match of Group ‘C’. The solitary try was scored by Chamara Dabare with Saliya Kumara making the conversion.

The Lankans put up a gallant display in their second match of the day against Chinese Taipai before losing by 14 points (two goals) to 17 (two goals, one penalty) after trialling 7-10 at the breather.

Saliya Kumara and Vishwamithra Jayasinghe scored the tries for the Lankans with Saliya Kumara converting both tries. With these two defeats the Lankans were relegated to the Bowl Competition.
