Sports Cavalcade in Ratnapura on September 15

SPORTS CAVALCADE: Ratnapura will go gay when for the first time a Sports Cavalcade will thrill the sports loving public on September 15. All events will be held in the vicinity of Ratnapura so that fans will be able to enjoy themselves to the utmost.

Cycling will take top billing with three events - Men's 130 kms Open Cycle, 40 kms women's open cycle race and Masters Open cycle race of 30 kms. The route for the cycle races will be: Starting point opposite Town Hall Ratnapura, then the cyclists will proceed to New Town covering the New Town circuit. The riders will finish opposite the Town Hall, Ratnapura.

For Soccer fans, there's something special for them to look forward to. There will be a soccer match between Ratnapura Youth Team and Kurunegala Belegans Team.

Then there is the much loved sport of Angampora (something similar to Karate) where top national class players and players from Ratnapura will give exhibition displays together with cultural shows with fancing.

The sporting events will be sponsored by the Ratnapura New Gem Merchants' Association with the Luxman Munasinghe Foundation.

In addition to the sports events, children from lower income families who are in the sports field will receive textbooks and glasses. Wheel chairs will be distributed to the disabled. There will be cash prizes being awarded during the week (15.09.2012 to 17.09.2012).
