Lanka, a big market for Mahindra

Mahindra, a $15b company manufactures a range of vehicles from
motorcycles to light aircraft.
"We have been in Sri Lanka for over a decade starting from farm
equipment and in 2002 we entered the motor business," said the Chairman
of the Ideal Group, Nalin Welgama at a media briefing in Colombo last
week.
He said the Ideal Group partnered the Mahindra group three years ago
and have a stake in the light commercial vehicle segment where they sell
2,200 vehicles per month and have a 40 percent market share of heavy
vehicles in the country.
"Sri Lanka has become the biggest market for Mahindra vehicles
outside India."
Meanwhile, Mahindra Group is the sponsor of the Sri Lanka Premier
League currently being played in the country which was a boost for young
cricketers in the provinces who were given an opportunity to come to the
forefront to showcase their talents.
