Pallekele Stadium geared up for World T20 tourney

The Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota is
getting ready to stage the first ICC World Twenty20 Cricket Tournament
match between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe on Tuesday September 18. The first
match to be played at the Pallekele International Stadium will be
between Pakistan and New Zealand will be on September 23.
Then the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played on
September 25 will also be at Pallekele. There will be more matches at
Pallekele on September 27, September 29 and October 1. Kandy is very
busy making preparations for this important tournament and Sri Lanka
Cricket will get the services of around 350 volunteers to see that
everything moves smoothly during the matches. A seminar has already been
held to brief the volunteers about the arrangements for the matches.
A committee comprising Anura de Silva - Assistant Manager programmes,
Janaka Pathirana - Venue Manager Volunteer, Roland Perera (Manager
Logistics), Brian Amunugama (Retd SSP), and Inspector of Police Gamini
Meegammana had a seminar and planned out the arrangements for the
matches. Another seminar for the volunteers will be held soon before the
teams come to Sri Lanka Kandy District Cricket Association members too
will be enlisted to serve on the committee.
