GHS Kandy receives Rs. 12 million from Sports Minister

Colours Awards: Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage was the
Chief Guest at the Annual Colours Award Ceremony of Girls, High
School,(GHS) Kandy held at Constance Mallet Hall last Sunday.
While the Minister of Sports Aluthgamage was Chief Guest, the Guest
of Honour was the 1972 Games Captain of the School- Nirmala Pilapitiya.
The Director of Education - Kandy, E. Ekanayake and the Director of
Physical Education, Kandy Gamini Obeysekera were also present. Colours
were awarded for Athletics, Badminton, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball,
Carrom, Chess and Swimming.
The Highest award for Sports called 'Super Magnificent Star' was
awarded to Dinushki Premanath and Irudu Basnayake for Chess, Merit
awards were awarded to 24 students, Half colours were awarded to 59
students, Colours to 47, Rising Stars for 7 students.
Splended Stars for 4 students, Magnificent Star for 1 student and
Super Magnificent Stars for 2 students.
It was quite a eventful day for Girls' High School, Kandy as the
Minister donated a cheque for Rs. 12 Million for the construction of a
Gymnasium.
