Demarcation of wards speeded
by Ranil Wijayapala
The Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils expects to
complete the process of demarcating wards in all 335 Local Authorities
within two months after the appointment of the National Delimitation
Committee and the district level Delimitation Committees, Secretary to
the Ministry R.A.A.K. Ranawake told the Sunday Observer.
He said that the Minister is due to appoint the National Delimitation
Committee and the other district level committees within this month,
enabling them to commence work soon.
The Secretary said public notices will be issued soon after the
appointment of the committees permitting political parties and other
civil organisations to make their representations to the National and
District committees, to consider their views when making recommendations
to the Minister regarding the wards.
"We expect to complete this process within two months as the district
level officials have acquired a basic idea about the ward system at
present", the Secretary added.
