Asian Ministerial Confab from today
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
The fifth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR)
will commence tomorrow in Yogyakarta, Indonesia with the participation
of more than 1,200 participants including 49 ministers and high-level
delegates from Asia. The conference will conclude on October 25.
This is the first gathering of Asian ministers to consider a
successor to the world's first comprehensive agreement on disaster risk
reduction, the Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015) which came into
effect after the 2004 Asian tsunami, according to a news release from
the United Nations Office on Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
The Conference will examine how to scale action at local level and
discuss the nature of a new post-2015 agreement based on the region's
experience to date.
