Sri Lanka promotional event in LA
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles organised a Sri
Lanka promotional event in collaboration with the Arcadia Chamber of
Commerce, California, USA at the Chamber conference hall last week.
The 'Sri Lanka Promotion' at the Arcadia Chamber focused on Sri
Lanka's trade, investment and tourism.
Executive Director of the Arcadia Chamber Scott Hettric said the Sri
Lanka Consulate has been working closely with their organisation, and
this was a great event to promote Sri Lanka among the business community
of Arcadia city.
Scott said Arcadia is an affluent city in Los Angeles with a
population of about 60,000.
The Bloomberg Business Week has named it one of the best palaces in
California to live and do business.
He appreciated the Lankan Consulate General's for the initiatives
taken to promote Sri Lanka, and extended the Chamber's fullest support
and cooperation to strengthen and enhance trade and economic ties
between the USA and Sri Lanka.
Consul General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles Dr. Hector Weerasinghe
highlighted Sri Lanka's rapid economic development after the eradication
of terrorism in May 2009.
He stated that Sri Lanka maintains political and economic stability
now and the multi-ethnic and multi-religious population live in peace
and harmony. The economy grew by 8.3 percent for two consecutive years -
2010 and 2012, and tourism arrivals stood at about 900.000 in 2011.
Consul (Commercial) of the Sri Lanka Consulate Sidath Kumar, made a
comprehensive presentation covering an overview of Sri Lanka within
socio-economic indicators, trade with the world and the USA, potential
export items to the US market, US GSP scheme, Trade and Investment
Framework Agreement, investment opportunities and incentives offered by
the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and Mahinda Chinthana - Vision for
the Future. |
