Saki Data Centre at proposed Hambantota techno park
Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services Ltd. of India signed an
agreement with the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology
(MoTIT), Sri Lanka to set up the Saki Data Centre at the proposed Saki
Knowledge and Technology Park in Hambantota.
The Indian company will invest Rs 3.5 b and construction work is
scheduled to commence in six months. "We will open a regional office
next week in Colombo and the Hambantota office will be opened in two
months. "As Sri Lanka is a fast growing economy, we believe the
investments will yield high returns", Trimax, Chairman and Managing
Director Surya Prakash Madrecha said.
"Having made the biggest foreign investment in Sri Lanka we expect to
break even in five years. The partnership will help the country to
become the technology hub in Asia", he said.
The Saki Data Centre will provide shared, secured and managed
infrastructure for consolidating and hosting national level applications
to provide government-to-government, government-to-citizen and
government-to-Business Services which would be fast, efficient,
trustworthy and also provide a managed environment for citizens and
businesses to conduct secure transactions.
This constructive public-private partnership between India and Sri
Lanka will create a legacy for Hambantota and the country, a spokesman
said.This will support promoting social, economic regeneration and make
Sri Lanka a technology hub for Asia. Trimax, a $156.8 m company with 11
offices, more than 600 support locations and over 1,600 employees in
India will make an investment of around Rs. 3,500 m towards the Saki
Data Centre project.
