HNB donates books under Nena Pubuduwa program
Hatton National Bank (HNB) donated books worth over Rs 2.5 m to 200
under-privileged schools under the Nena Pubuduwa school library program.
A spokesman for HNB said, "The Bank launched the school library
scheme in 2005 to provide opportunities to under-privileged children
especially in rural schools to enhance knowledge and stimulate a love
for reading and learning. It promotes international and inter-cultural
understanding and awareness, improves and expands knowledge of English
and ICT thus creating opportunities for higher education and
employment."
"This program which has been implemented in 200 schools and has
provided library facilities, furniture, books and computers. The Bank
monitors the progress of each school library through its branch network.
Every year the Bank donates new books to each library and carries out
repairs and renovations when needed", he said.
